Sub Zero Error Codes

Here are a few of the most common error codes for Sub Zero refrigerators, freezers, and appliances

  • EC06: Refrigerator Thermistor Error – This means there’s an issue with the refrigerator’s temperature sensor, which may need adjustment or replacement.

  • EC20: Freezer Defrost Problem – The freezer’s defrost system is having trouble stopping or starting its defrost cycle, affecting the freezer’s ability to stay frost-free.

  • EC21: Condenser Fan Error – The fan that cools the condenser isn’t working correctly, which can make the fridge overheat. Cleaning the condenser coils may help.

  • EC24: Defrost Underheat – The freezer’s defrost cycle isn’t generating enough heat to melt frost on its coils. Often, dirty condenser coils cause this.

  • EC30: Ice Maker Thermistor Error – The temperature sensor in the ice maker is malfunctioning, which may prevent ice production or cause uneven ice size.

  • EC40: Freezer Compressor Running Too Much – If the freezer compressor is running constantly, it could mean the door was left open, the temperature is too high, or there’s a blockage in the airflow.

  • EC50: Refrigerator Compressor Running Too Much – Similar to EC40 but for the refrigerator section. It’s often caused by warm temperatures, a door left open, or dust-covered condenser coils.

  • EC70: High-Temperature Alert – This indicates that the temperature inside the fridge or freezer is too warm, which could be caused by a door that isn’t fully closed or a malfunctioning component.

  • EC85: Water Filter Replacement Alert – Time to replace the water filter! This keeps your water and ice tasting fresh and clean.

  • EC90: Freezer Drawer Left Open – This code alerts you when the freezer drawer isn’t fully closed, which can make the freezer lose its chill.

  • CE: Communication Error – This code appears when there’s a communication issue between the main control board and other components, like sensors.

  • SVC or Service: Service Alert – This is a general alert that your Sub-Zero fridge needs professional attention for routine service or specific repairs.
